To assure the continued privacy and confidentiality of your personal financial information, we at STAR Credit Union observe these practices and procedures:
Information We Collect
Our Credit Union will collect only personal information necessary to conduct our business. That means just information that is necessary to provide competitive products and services, nothing more.
We collect nonpublic information about you from some or all of the following sources:

Information we receive from you on an application, an account card or other forms to obtain or maintain a service with us, whether in writing, in person, by telephone or electronically. This information may include your name, address, social security number, assets, income, employment information and credit references.

Information about your transactions with us, our affiliates or others, such as your account balance, payment history, parties to transactions and credit card usage.

Information we receive from a consumer-reporting agency or credit bureau, such as your credit worthiness and credit history to evaluate a loan application.

Communications from you regarding your account(s), such as change of address request.
Use of Personal Information
Our Credit Union will only use your personal information to verify your identity, provide you with quality member service and evaluate your request for products and/or services.
Information We Disclose
Our Credit Union will only disclose information when necessary. We may disclose some or all of the information we collect as described above to companies that perform marketing services on our behalf or the other financial institutions with which we have joint marketing agreements, such as credit life insurance companies.
We will disclose information to administer the products and services we provide to our financial service providers to help us process your applications or service your accounts. Our service providers may include mail service companies, check printing companies, credit card and debit card issuers.
We may disclose information about you under other circumstances as permitted by law or when required to do so by the government, such as responding to a subpoena or court order, judicial process or regulatory authorities and to protect against fraud.
We will disclose information regarding our members’ accounts to credit bureaus for credit reporting purposes.
We do not disclose any nonpublic personal information about our members and former members to anyone, except as permitted by law.
Our Security Measures
Our Credit Union will protect your personal information. We restrict access to nonpublic information about you to those employees who need to know that information to provide products or services to you. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with Federal Regulations to guard your nonpublic personal information and to assist us in preventing unauthorized access to that information.
Our Credit Union will do business only with companies that follow strict confidentiality requirements. The businesses we select will offer products designed to enhance our members’ well being. Under no circumstance will we authorize these firms to charge your account without your express consent, and we will not sell member information to telemarketing firms.
You will always have access to your information. As a member of our credit union, you will always have the opportunity to review your information and make any necessary changes to ensure that our records are complete and accurate.
Your Option Not to Disclose
Our Credit Union will offer you a choice in how your information is used. Any member of our Credit Union may elect to keep their information from being shared with our business partners. You may exercise your choice by contacting our Member Services Department at (361) 242-7827 option #3. We will take reasonable steps to make sure your request is honored. At least once a year, we will remind all of our members of your right to choose. An opt-out request by any party on a joint account will apply to all parties on that joint account. Please allow us sufficient time to process your request. |
